This foundation was created to inspire and encourage our communities. As we provide support to our senior citizens.
It's very important to the Flowers family to reach back to the ones that paved the way. After all, where would we be with out our elders? With bringing awareness to the ones that are often forgotten. We're here to make it a brighter day within the senior citizens communities. The Shirley Flowers Be Encouraged Foundation has been created for those that are unfortunate to not have family or friends to check in on them.
We came together to create a support system for our senior citizens in the city of Pittsburgh and throughout Allegheny County.
The Foundation is here to assist with the need in communication.
Senior Programing
Building Senior Communications Program
Our volunteers will provide assistance on navigating through the new way of communication. Always with extra love and care . Making it easier to connect with their families and friends. The Shirley Flowers Be Encouraged Foundation will assist with a one on one in person
technical support program.
As we bridge the gap between our senior
citizen community and technology.
Shirley Flowers was the beloved mother of Monique and Nichole Flowers, and William Thorn lll. She was well-respected within her church family and throughout her career. Our Mother worked for 34 years within the Pittsburgh Public Schools System. She also supported the parents throughout the community always to lend a helping hand. She also shared words of encouragement.
The depth of our mother’s love and her commitment for others was realized shortly after her passing on June 11, 2019. At that time, many people shared interesting stories and heartfelt memories of her. Some of her closest friends shared stories from when she was a young child on to her young adulthood. Some stories depicted a party lifestyle and just learning how to find her own way in the world. Now, my mom would refer to it as “her being worldly”.
A lot of her Church members shared how she impacted their lives.
Her longtime colleagues stated how much she was a joy and a blessing within the workplace. She was known as the Lady of Procedures. The amount of love and support she received was overwhelming.
Our mother joined Hillcrest Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1977.
This was her new beginning; creating a fabulous and blissful journey as a mother and church member. Eventually, she became the church’s Personal Ministry Secretary, which gave her so much joy and pride. That position allowed her to share her gift of teaching black history and inspiring others. She ended every report with “Be of Good Cheer and Be Encouraged” that became her trademark over the years.
Shirley Flowers willingly offered a helping hand to everyone, especially our senior citizens. She made phone calls and in-person visits. she also sat with those that needed companionship. Sometimes at their homes or at their doctor appointments. She went above and beyond giving rides to and from church to those who needed a little help. Being a woman of God she kept motivational material and personal gifts in the trunk of her car to put a smile on any needed face. Shirley Flowers was known for sharing with people and always smiling and saying,
“Be Encouraged”.
As we reflected on the beautiful impact of her legacy we're proud to carry on her name. With positivity, caring actions and wisdom. In her honor we welcome you to,
The Shirley Flowers Be Encouraged Foundation.
This Foundation was created to bring awareness to the importance of giving back and to continue to bring encouragement to others.
Carrying on her legacy throughout her family. My mom always said
“WE GOT TO STICK TOGETHER”.
We will continue to move forward in an encouraging effort with our supportive actions.
